And the Winner Was…MacNCheese
Let’s forget those two dumb dudes and focus on the real winner on Oscar night: MacNCheese, the puppy Jamie Lee Curtis held onstage during her tribute to animal saint Betty White.
“The greatest gift you could give Betty White is to open your heart and your home and adopt a rescue dog just like MacNCheese from Paw Works,” Curtis said. Paw Works is a pet rescue organization in Ventura County.
Originally, Curtis was to be onstage with a trained dog as a prop (this being Hollywood). But she insisted on using an actual rescue pup, and that’s how she came to meet MacNCheese. The little guy had been left at the doorstep of a Paw Works-affiliated animal shelter in Avenal, along with his mom and three sibs. All were placed in adoptive homes – except Mac.
Later in the evening John Travolta met MacNCheese backstage, they had a meet-cute moment, and so the “Saturday Night Fever” star had no choice but to adopt the pup himself. Hollywood loves a happy ending.
Curtis had co-starred with Travolta in the 1984 film “Perfect.” Watch her Academy tribute at youtube.com/watch?v=ngCHamNI-Eg&t=243s.
