PETA Offers Influencer Katie Price £5,000 to Stop Owning Pets

PETA Offers Influencer Katie Price £5,000 to Stop Owning Pets

Animal welfare group PETA UK is asking Katie Price to cease and desist owning animals because the “media personality” has had a horrible track record with her pets. The org is offering Price £5,000 ($6,300) if she’ll sign a legally binding agreement promising never to acquire another animal.

Price’s reputation with animals is awful. Since 2017, the 45 year old has “lost” five dogs, a horse, and a chameleon. The horse had escaped from a field and was struck dead by a car. Other automotive fatalities included the dogs Queenie, Sparkle, Sharon, and Blade – all killed within a 5-year period. The other dog, a puppy named Rolo, died in 2020 when it suffocated in an electric armchair, just weeks after it entered Price’s cursed world.

These transgressions inspired a petition, launched on change.org: “Ban Katie price from buying anymore animals (sic).” The string of deaths has also driven PETA to make their offer.

“While your intentions may be good, the ever-growing number of animals who have either died under your supervision or been given away is impossible to ignore, and people are rightly concerned,” PETA UK’s vice president of programs and operations Elisa Allen writes in an open letter to Price. “Whatever you may offer as reasons for their suffering, relinquishment, or demise, the fact is that you are consistently harming these sensitive, sentient individuals.”

PETA is also offering to sweeten the deal by tossing in “a stunning array of beautiful plush animal toys to feature in your social media posts and to share with your children.”

Price is a celebrity who’s famous for being famous. She appeared on the scene in the 1990s as a Page 3 pinup model in the British tabloid The Sun (under the pseudonym “Jordan”). She has since parlayed that attention into a career in reality TV, most prominently in something called “I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!”  among others.

Price has not yet responded to PETA’s offer, but she did lash out at her detractors last year after the dog Blade succumbed to the Katie Price Curse. "Who said I shouldn’t have animals?,” she asked on instagram. “Tell me why I shouldn’t have animals? Tell me why? I’m going to prove you f**kers wrong who say and believe everything.”
