Peggy, Ugliest Dog in Britain, Gets a Makeover
The winner of Britain’s ugly dog contest – a 4-year-old Pug and Chinese Crested cross named Peggy – last week received her prize: a pampering makeover session and professional photo shoot at a grooming salon in Beverley, East Yorkshire.
“Being part of the ugliest dog competition has been brilliant from start to finish,” Holly Middleton, Peggy's owner, told contest organizer ParrotPrint. “Peggy has loved every second and has been absolutely lapping up all of the fuss and attention.”
“Lapping” is apt, because Peggy’s defining feature is her long tongue, hanging out of her mouth like an untucked shirt tail. “Luckily Peggy is a completely healthy and happy dog, her tongue doesn’t cause her any issues,” says Middleton. “She can eat (and she really does love to eat) and drink with no problems, and other than having to wear jumpers for warmth in colder weather and sun cream in the summer she’s exactly the same as any other dog.”
Peggy’s spa day included a hydrobath, blueberry facial, nail trim, nose balm treatment, and a day of rest and relaxation. “She feels a lot softer. She smells a lot better. Her hair's a lot more fluffy,” says Middleton.
And she is beautiful, inside and out.
