Drones For Doudou
A woman in China spared no expense for her dog’s birthday. The unnamed dog lover dropped 100,000 yuan (US$15,700) to rent 520 drones that lit up the night sky over the Xiangjiang River: “Happy 10th birthday to Doudou.”
The drones then formed patterns in the sky of a birthday cake and a gift box containing a bone. The amount of drones – 520 – was intentional, says the South China Morning Post, as that number is often used for amorous messaging, since the Mandarin pronunciation for the digits sounds similar to “I love you.”
The local cops weren’t in love with the stunt, which took place in a drone no-fly zone with many high-rise residential buildings in the area. An official said prior approval was required for such displays and that the police would shoot down unauthorized drones when they see them. Maybe next year.
