Wrinkled Bloodhound Trumps Competition

Wrinkled Bloodhound Trumps Competition

They called him wrinkled and jowly, and now they call him the best. Trumpet the bloodhound has won Best In show at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, held for the second year in a row in Tarrytown, NY.

The four year old from Illinois is the first bloodhound to take the big prize in this the 146th annual competition of very good dogs. Trumpet prevailed in a majestic field of rivals, including a French bulldog, German shepherd, Maltese, English setter, Samoyed, and a Lakeland terrier.

“Posing before a massive silver cup and a slew of ribbons in the traditional champion’s post-victory glamour shoot,” the New York Times gushed, “Trumpet had little to say. But he looked every inch the champion, his lugubrious face and quizzical air for some reason adding to, rather than detracting from, his dignity.”

Just look at that face. What’s not to love?
