Birdie Begs for Mercy After Pulling Fire Alarm
When the Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire Department responded to an alarm last week in Grimes, Iowa, they had nothing to do because there was no fire. A security camera revealed who had pulled the alarm.
Turns out it was a rather excitable almost-three-year-old named Birdie, a golden retriever with a reputation for being a little “nuts,” according to Jessica Tapper, owner of the doggie daycare Dogwoods Lodge.
Tapper told the Des Moines Register that the daycare segregates dogs into a “lazy room” and a “crazy room” — and Birdie is always in the crazy room. “She plays nonstop,” Tapper said.
The fire department was sanguine about the episode. “Just a false alarm, it happens sometimes,” said firefighter Nick Pearson. “We are happy to go there and see dogs once in a while, so it's OK.”
A chastened Birdie issued an abject apology on Instagram, where she is pictured wearing a sign that reads: "I'm sorry I pulled the fire alarm today. Sincerely, Birdie."
Tapper says there won’t be false alarms in the future. “Needless to say we are getting covers now.”
